Diversity Workshops
Jonathan is both gay and mixed race and is passionate about helping to build common understanding and respect on diversity issues. These issues can often seem taboo, divisive and difficult to address at the workplace.
Jonathan has designed and facilitated a number of bespoke workshops to suit teams in different organisations on diversity, sometimes looking at diversity as a whole and sometimes focusing on a particular characteristic, such as race. These have varied in length from 90 mins to a day or a series of 90-minute workshops to build and sustain change over time. As a professional coach, Jonathan takes a coaching approach to the workshops, asking teams to listen and think deeply about the issues and to reflect on their own individual and team experiences before he works with teams to think about what they could do differently in the future.
Jonathan has been invited to speak on panels or alone focused on diversity issues at several institutions including Save The Children, St Andrew’s University, the International Coaching Federation and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
“Jonathan’s coaching sessions on anti-racism and allyship were incredibly useful and insightful. We particularly appreciated hearing case studies of the lived experience of civil servants and the practical examples of how to be a better ally. On top of the valuable content, we found Jonathan’s open and approachable – yet gently challenging – style to be particularly effective in allowing us to reflect at a deeper level and to challenge ourselves to do more to be genuinely aware and active advocates of anti-racism. We would highly recommend his sessions and his coaching approach to any organisation wanting to do more on these and other issues.”
